Dubai’s Princess Sheikha Mahra Bint Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum has launched a new fragrance called ‘Divorce’ eight weeks after her split from her husband, who she claimed was ‘busy with other friends’.
The radical royal, 30, unveiled the perfume in an Instagram post on Monday, which quickly garnered tens of thousands of likes and praise from feminists who described the unorthodox venture as empowering.
The simply named perfume is the first product from the beauty’s new brand, Mahra M1.
In July, the perfume princess blasted her husband, industrialist Sheikh Mana bin Mohammed bin Rashid bin Mana Al Maktoum, in a social media post announcing the end of her marriage.
“Since you are busy with other friends, I declare our divorce. Divorce, divorce and divorce”, she wrote.
The post appears to invoke a controversial tactic where a man can instantly divorce his wife by declaring it three times.
Mahra’s post sent shockwaves across the UAE, with many initially believing the royal family’s Instagram account had been hacked.
The couple was married for just one year and have a 4-month-old daughter.
Mahra is the daughter of the ruler of Dubai and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates, Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
The princess is one of Muhammad’s 26 children.
Her mother, Zoe Grigorakos, is Greek, and Mahra has been cited as a “more modern member” of her family, according to Tatler.
Fans flooded the comments section below Mahra’s “Divorce” announcement, with one writing: “In 2024, women don’t cry. We open new businesses!”
“I’m sure it smells like freedom,” cheered another.
“You’re incredible,” weighed in a third. “Goose kidneys. You are not a princess. You are a queen.”
